Envision Education is a noble initiative led by high school students, Shreyas Sharma Rulin Huang, Steve Yin, and Ashlee Wang at Concordia International School Shanghai. Together, these young visionaries recognized the urgent need for digital access and education in underdeveloped communities in rural China and took the initiative to make a difference themselves. Through a combination of resourcefulness and dedication, they launched their first project—ZhaoQing 2023–which targets the transformation of the learning experience for students in a remote village in ZhaoQing, Guangzhou.
Envision Education's ultimate mission is to bridge the digital divide between the developed and underdeveloped. ZhaoQing2023 addresses this mission by delivering gently used computers to 广东省肇庆市怀集县谭播小学 (TanBo Elementary School) and subsequently training students and teachers alike to more efficiently utilize the modern 21st-century technologies.
These students actively sought out connections with corporations and their local communities alike, collecting computers that have been donated. Following, these computers were diagnosed and tested, filtering through the ones that were incapable of further use. The remaining computers were reset, refurbished, repurposed, updated with the newest Mac OS, and ready for shipping. Shipped alongside the computers were earphones, chargers, projectors and other miscellaneous items that would further support educational endeavors. FedEx has been a proud partner in this endeavor, providing safe and reliable shipping services to deliver the reinstated devices to their destination in Guangdong.
Upon arrival, the Envision Education team established a computer lab with the equipment FedEx was able to ship to the destination. The lab is composed of 58 computers for student discovery and a projector which would allow for digital lessons and presentations in class. The Envision team believes that this would provide opportunities otherwise incapable of being captured without the help of computers and the internet. Additionally, the Envision team also planned and taught lessons regarding digital literacy and computer-assisted academia in hopes of providing a more convenient enhancement to paper-driven studies. The impact of their first project, ZhaoQing 2023, has been nothing short of remarkable. In collaboration with a local NGO, Envision Education managed to bring over 55 devices to a school in a remote location. This initiative has not only provided students with access to digital resources but also empowered them with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
